Over the last week our Photography and Journalism focus group conducted interviews with youth farmers and staff. Here are a few from aspiring journalists Julie, Simon, and Elijah.
“We interviewed SP in our focus group today. She is 13 years old and she plays a lot of sports such as volleyball and softball. Her favorite food is tacos, but if she could get anything from Dairy Queen she would get a hot fudge sundae. She has been at youth farm for six years. She found out about Youth Farm from her school. Her favorite Youth Farm memory so far is doing the waterslide.” – Julie
” We also interviewed Clare today. She is also 13 years old. Her favorite food is oranges, but if she could get anything from Dairy Queen it would be just a vanilla ice cream cone. The only sport she plays is karate. She has been at Youth Farm for two years, her favorite memory is compost week. She discovered Youth Farm from her older cousin Calla who is now a lead staff.” – Simon
“We interviewed Gideon, who is nine years old. Believe it or not his favorite food is brussels sprouts. This is his first year at Youth Farm. If he went to icy cup he would definitely get chocolate ice cream. He loves swimming, and fund out about Youth Farm by his older bro, Elijah. Gideon’s favorite memory from Youth Farm is the Mac and cheese from the first day of Youth Farm.” – Elijah
It may not end up being anyones favorite memory but yesterday we got our first red tomato out of the Robert street garden. This year we’ve utilized a new trellising system that needs a lot of attention, the crew at the Robert street garden have become quick pros at tying up “tommys” and pulling the “sucker” stalks. Their hard work and persistence has paid off!
